  • Beverly A. Goldstein, Ph.D. is the 2016 Republican candidate for the United States House of Representative, OH District – 11. She has been a  resident of D-11 since 1971, and is married to an attorney and retired Naval Cryptology Officer, a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Intelligence Community.  She’s a mom of three married children and a grandma of two. Dr. Goldstein is also a former university professor, an audiology professional and healthcare entrepreneur, and for the past ten years has developed a reputation as a national security grassroots leader and community educator in Ohio.

Following her early audiology clinic directorships managing inner city hearing clinics, and teaching careers at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University, Beverly created a home-care audiology private practice in 1994, which helped thousands of Northeast Ohio home-bound elderly persons communicate with their families. Her legislative initiatives have improved the lives of Ohio children suffering from hearing loss.

Beverly chaired the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Commission that created the national legislative model for licensure of the professions of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.  She served the State of Ohio as the Audiology Member of the Hearing Aid Dealers and Fitters Licensing Board for eight years. She then worked with the Ohio Department of Health and Ohio Senator Grace Drake to draft and facilitate passage by the Ohio General Assembly of an Ohio law requiring mandatory hearing screening of all newborns. This landmark legislation revolutionized early identification of hearing loss in Ohio infants, enabling speech-language pathologists to treat language developmental delays prior to the age of 18 months. These children are eligible for immediate language development treatment, and for hearing aids and cochlear implants, which enable them to experience the timely development of language.

Beverly has been honored with multiple awards from both ASHA, Ohio Speech Language and Hearing Association (OSHA)  and the State of Ohio for her caring work with persons suffering from communication disorders. She is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association; a Fellow of the Ohio Speech-Language Hearing Association; and a former member and Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.

Dr. Goldstein earned a B.A. in Speech and Hearing and an M.A. in Audiology from Michigan State University.  She obtained her Ph.D. in Audiology and Rehabilitation from Kent State University.

Dr. Goldstein began her political and grassroots work as a donor, member and leader of a number of national and international organizations including the Association of Former Intelligence Officers, ACT! for America, Leadership Level of the Republican Jewish Coalition, and Christians United for Israel. She has attended three World Counter-Terrorism Summits of the International Institute of Counter-Terrorism in Herzliya, Israel, and more than 100 national security seminars in cities throughout the United States.

Bev began studying and teaching national security, foreign policy, and terrorism studies after attending the 2005 annual Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO) National Intelligence Symposium on terrorism at FBI Headquarters in DC with her husband, Mike, an AFIO member and 30-year Intelligence Community veteran.  She has created power points and given multiple lectures throughout Ohio, and in other states.  Bev has presented each power point-supported lecture several times to many groups.  They have been modified over time.

In 2008, as Vice President of the Beachwood Schools Foundation, Bev created a full-day National Intelligence Briefing for all Beachwood High School students, which was made an official part of the school’s curriculum.  She arranged speakers from FBI, NSA, DIA, Cleveland Fusion Center, former CIA, and other agencies, covering a wide variety of the intelligence spectrum for the students.  On behalf of the Beachwood Schools Foundation, Bev accepted FBI Director Mueller’s Community Leadership Award at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC in 2009 for creating and implementing this program.

In 2010, while Mike was President of the Northern Ohio Chapter of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers, he and Bev, who was also an AFIO member, were asked by the AFIO national office to host AFIO’s annual 3-day National Intelligence Symposium, and to do it in Cleveland.  Bev and Mike chose the theme: “Intelligence and National Security on the Great Lakes and Northern Border.”  They arranged the program, engaged all national-level speakers (from CIA, DIA, NSA, FBI, United States Attorney’s office, Coast Guard Intelligence, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio Fusion Centers, Ohio Aerospace Institute, Air Force Institute of Technology, USAF National Air & Space Intelligence Center, International Spy Museum), and hosted the 3-day conference.

In 2010 Bev moderated a 5-hour symposium at Grace C.M.A. Church in Middleburg Heights, OH, “The Real and Present Danger” on the issues of the Muslim Brotherhood in America (Frank Gaffney); Sharia Law (Clare Lopez); Compare Christianity and Islam (Daniel Shayesteh); and The Dangers of a Nuclear Iran (Michael Goldstein).

In 2011 Bev and Mike created an anti-BDS program at Tiffin University in Tiffin, OH in conjunction with the university’s Department of Political Science.  This was to counter an earlier pro-BDS conference held at a convent in Tiffin by Pax Christi Peace Initiative sponsored by Friends of Sabeel North America, “Israel and Palestine – Pathways to Peace.”  Bev and Mike arranged all the speakers and topics.  Presenters were: Alan Elsner (The Israel Project); Brooke Goldstein (The Lawfare Project); Clare Lopez (Center for Security Policy); John Somerville (Christians United for Israel); Jonathan Schanzer (Foundation for Defense of Democracies); Richard Hellman (Christians’ Israel Public Action Campaign); and Dayan Gross (Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland).

In 2015 Beverly traveled to Israel on a national security mission to view for herself the violent borders which are now unsafe to visit. She learned how Iran adversely impacts the direct security of northern Israel through their terrorist proxies living at the lawless southern Lebanese border. Personally seeing the existential danger from Iran toward a democratic nation which shares our freedoms and values, she was compelled to organize the August 2015 Cleveland Stop Iran Nuclear Deal Rally to pressure Congress to vote “No” on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) regarding the “Iran Deal.” Dr. Goldstein has been lobbying Congress for ten years on national security issues on behalf of many non-profit organizations, and she has extensive contacts in Washington, DC and on Capitol Hill.
